Deirdre Clune MEP Visits Scoil Nioclais


On Thursday 22nd February Scoil Niocláis received a visit from Deirdre Clune for the constituency of Ireland South. It was a lovely ceremony and a memorable day for the school!
Thank you to Ms.Downing our Green Schools Coordinator in Scoil Nioclais for all the work and preparation that went into the visit and to all staff members and pupils who were involved on the day.
Junior & Senior Infants did a terrific job in forming a guard of honour with flags.
Well done also to Ms. Beechinor and Ms. Kelliher & Ms. Hennessy's class who performed 'The Ode To Joy', the European anthem.
Ms. O' Brien/Mr Foley's class and Ms. Downing's Senior Infants class said hello in the 28 languages of the member states!
5th & 6th class greeted her in the halla where children from 5th class interviewed Deirdre Clune about her role and why we should stay in Europe.
Well done also to all classes that displayed artwork and projects in the halla.

Bookfair Images 2017

Our Bookfair this year has been a resounding success thanks to the hard work and participation of the SNPA, teachers, pupils and parents. The theme for our bookweek was It's Autumn...Leaf through a Good Book! We raised a total of €10,900! Thank you to the children and parents who came and contributed to the success of the bookfair. Because of you 60% of the total raised will be used to furnish our school libraries with new books!

WINNERS! Excellence in IT Education.

Congratulations to all of us! Scoil Nioclais were announced overall winners of the Excellence in IT Education Award at the it@cork leaders awards 2017. This is a much deserved result and we are very proud of the efforts made in IT education by our teachers, parents and pupils.

Scoil Niocláis has been nominated for the Excellence in Education award in IT in the it@cork Leaders Awards. This nomination itself recognises our efforts in IT both in the school and wider community. Following a submission, we were delighted to be shortlisted as a finalist in this category. The results will be announced on the 20th October- fingers crossed!

Biodiversity Flag




Biodiversity Flag
Scoil Nioclais is involved in Green Schools which is an internationally recognised Environmental Care Programme. We were recently awarded our 5th Green Flag for Biodiversity.ie caring for plants and animals. Our previous flags have been for Litter and waste reduction, saving electricity, conserving water and sustainable travel. The Green School Committee members are Ms. Downing, Ms.Walsh , Tricia O’ Sullivan  and pupils: Joshua Thompson, Rory O Sullivan, Gordan Wong, Aran Ryan, Raymond Foley, Rebecca Walsh, David O’ Connell, Aisling Dorgan, Eoin O’ Connor, Katelyn Geary, Ben Warren Flynn and Lei o’ Donoghue.
Initiatives  to raise awareness of environmental care in our school are recycling our waste and composting ,WOW ( Walk on Wednesdays), Cow days( Cycle on Wednesdays), Golden Boot Award for the most Walkers,Greenest/ Tidiest Classroom Award, awareness surveys,  quizzes, The Biodiversity Photography Competition and our beautiful new sensory garden .This garden is divided into 5 sections according to the  5 senses .
Our winning  Green Schools Slogan was “ Help the Animals and Plants to survive , help keep the earth alive. “
